It was while teaching a course called ‘ The Black Woman’ to middle school girls in 1970 that Collins realised the dearth of intellectual material on the lives of African-American women and the significance of this dearth. Collins worked as a school teacher and curriculum expert at schools in Boston. It was during this time that her worldview and horizon expanded and she got exposed to the sociology of knowledge which later proved fundamental in her development of the concept of ‘standpoint epistemology’. She completed her Bachelors in Sociology from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1969 and Masters in teaching from Harvard University in 1970. She later works on the intersectionality between race, class, gender was influenced by her early childhood experiences of being the only African-American or first African-American woman in her educational environment. Patricia Hill Collins born to Albert Hill and Eunice Rudolph Hill on May 1 st, 1948 in Philadelphia grew up in a middle-class family as an only child.

I’m copying the summary from Goodreads: From actor Cary Elwes, who played the iconic role of Westley in The Princess Bride, comes a first-person account and behind-the-scenes look at the making of the cult classic film filled with never-before-told stories, exclusive photographs, and interviews with costars Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, and Mandy Patinkin, as well as author and screenwriter William Goldman, producer Norman Lear, and director Rob Reiner. (I’m pretty sure I shrieked when I spotted him in Glory.) So this book has been high on my to-read list for some time. And it’s always awesome when I have no idea he’s in a movie and he takes me by surprise. But the list of lovable roles just goes on and on. Then a few years later I discovered Lady Jane and came to appreciate his dramatic pieces as well. I fell in love with him in this movie in high school, as well as his turn in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. First Lines: Standing onstage at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, surrounded by cast members and some of the crew, many of whom I’ve not seen in years, I feel an almost overwhelming sense of gratitude and nostalgia.Īlright, y’all, I’m the first to confess that I have a massive crush on Cary Elwes, who is over twice my age but just as delightful and handsome now as he was 30 years ago. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Big swiss jen beagin summaryThings take a weird turn as she later becomes obsessed with one of the patients and begins an explosive relationship with them.īased on Jen Beagin’s book of the same name, which is due for release later this year, Big Swiss has been described by publisher Curtis Brown as “ whipcrack smart and completely unexpected at nearly every turn” and “laugh out loud hilarious with a dark edge”.īeagin’s previous works include Pretend I’m Dead, a book about a young house cleaner Mona, who travels to New Mexico to escape her demons, and its sequel, Vacuum in the Dark. Here’s everything we know about Comer’s role and Big Swiss so far. Luckily, the actor won’t be leaving the small screen behind just yet as she’s due to star in a brand new HBO series, Big Swiss. Now, as fans prepare for the fourth and final season to come to an end, questions are being raised as to what’s next for Comer. The 29-year-old Liverpudlian got her big break after being cast as Villanelle, the ruthless and psychopathic assassin obsessed with Eve Polastri ( Sandra Oh) in Killing Eve. Jodie Comer has remained one of the UK’s most favourite actors, starring in everything from Waterloo Road to Doctor Foster. The subconscious mind is very complex, being responsible for about 95% of our daily life decisions. Our thoughts are divided into conscious and subconscious minds. What are the Subconscious Mind And Conscious Mind? Everything else your subconscious mind will do. But, it's a powerful tool for self-help without requiring big efforts, only a little bit of patience and sleeping. In the beginning, affirmations while sleeping could seem complicated as simple words repeat leading to nowhere. Practicing affirmations helps you boost self-esteem and positive thinking, letting the sleeping brain calm down by getting rid of negative thoughts. They are practiced before or during sleep. Hence, the excuse that you are busy and don't have enough time for self-improvement won't work out anymore! What Are Sleep Affirmations?Īffirmations are positive statements you repeat or listen to. Actually, sleeping is the most beneficial time for practicing affirmations. Affirmations make desired changes in life happen. Listening to positive affirmations is an effective technique to spend this time. You may think sleeping is for rest only - nothing else useful could be obtainable during the night. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Split Infinity by Piers AnthonyBut if you don't, definitely get the audio book and give the first book a little bit of time. If you like reading and have the time I recommend reading this series first. He has a rather "bland" voice but is able to differentiate some of the characters so you can tell who is who. By the third book I actually enjoyed listening to him. I didn't like the narrator very much at first but he kind of grew on me. I wish someone would buy the movie rights to this series as it would make an awesome set of movies to rival the best fantasy/sci fi out there. There is no "bad language" but the themes are very much adult-oriented. This series is really meant for adults and older teens as it includes nudity and nongraphic sexuality. The last book in the series, Juxtaposition, is a roller coaster ride of increasing stakes as the hero overcomes his enemies and saves both worlds. The overall plot involving a world with two different "frames"-one of science and one of fantasy-is wonderfully done and easily justifies the three books. The dialog sometimes is a little stilted but it's a fun adventure and is great for those who aren't die-hard fantasy fans. It has one of the best plots involving science fiction and fantasy of any author in either genre. This is by far my favorite Piers Anthony Series. 5/24/2023 0 Comments I hate my neck by nora ephron'The book that most influenced me' Lily Allen 'Oh how I loved Nora Ephron' Nigella Lawson 'I am only one of millions of women who will miss Nora's voice' Lena Dunham I buy it for people so often that I've been known to give girlfriends two copies, one birthday after another' - Dolly Alderton 'I give this as a present more than other book. * Anything you think is wrong with your body at the age of thirty-five you will be nostalgic for by the age of forty-five. * If only one third of your clothes are mistakes, you're ahead of the game. * When your children are teenagers, it's important to have a dog so that someone in the house is happy to see you. * If the shoe doesn't fit in the shoe store, it's never going to fit. * Never marry a man you wouldn't want to be divorced from.
